Latest Stock

Our wonderful inventory of Kashquli carpets hand picked from the villages where they originated has proved very popular - not many pieces remaining.

As usual, we keep our stock levels sufficient to avoid customer disappointment when looking for something specific.

If you are looking for something special, please give us a call - if we don't have an item, we can track it down locally, or keep an eye open next time we are buying in Iran.

State of the Industry

As you may be aware, events in recent years around the Persian Gulf have significantly affected trade conditions in the area as a whole. The United States have lifted their embargo on carpet imports from Iran, and the conclusion of the war in Aghanistan has affected the global supply in the oriental carpet market.

Our interpretation of the situation is that:

  • The prices of new carpets from producing countries will drop due to increase in supply.
  • Increased levels of hype and sales tactics can be expected to sell cheaper stock as greater quantities enter the market.
  • The market for older carpets (pre-WWII) will remain steady, so buy them when you see them.

As the credit crunch tightens its grip around the world, we expect that the market for Persian carpets will come under increased pressure. This is of course good news for the consumer who is in the fortunate position to capitalise on the decreased demand:

  • by trading up, ie. investing in a higher bracket of carpet.
  • by keeping a watchful eye out for carpets coming back onto the resale market at attractive prices.

Be sure not to miss our auctions, and do visit us for a browse around for that special investment.

Decor Hints

A rug of about 1.5 to 2.5m long can be used very effectively against the wall of an office or study. Hang the piece so the bottom nearly touches the floor or skirting (provided it's long enough). This floor-up method is said to aid co-operation and success, and can add a certain sense of complicitt, and even importance, to transactions!

Carpet Care

Spillage on a prize Persian Carpet is unfortunately one of the hazards of owning them.

For grubby spills like blood, chocolate, egg, fruit, grass, gravy, ice-cream, milk or soft drinks, use the following:

  • (1x) teaspoon of a neutral detergent (eg. dishwashing liquid)
  • 250ml of water
  • White absorbent tissue or clean cloth (eg. kitchen towel)

Proceed as follows:

  • Immediately blot up the surplus spillage or scrape up with a knife
  • Use the detergent solution above, a little at a time, with a clean absorbent cloth or sponge to work the spill out of the pile
  • Working from the edge of the spill inwards
  • Blot dry frequently to remove soiled solution from the pile
